Kennebec Heritage Garden 2016 With the support and combined efforts of the Township of Central Frontenac, the Kennebec & District Historical Society, the Friends of Arden, and the Kennebec Recreation Committee, work began this summer on the new Kennebec Heritage Garden in the village of Arden across from the Millpond. In July the Township provided and hauled multiple loads of fill while GE Matson and Sons with some volunteers, installed four drainage culverts and graded the site. As a follow up in September GE Matson & Sons with help again from several volunteers, hauled and placed demarcation stones and topsoil, and laid sod on the steeper areas of the site to help prevent erosion. Some additional work may proceed later this fall and next spring/early summer with completion planned in late summer as a Canada 150 project.
Salmon River Bridge Replacement - Highway #7 2018 LATEST UPDATE FROM MTO KINGSTON: The 1932 era Salmon River bridge on Hwy #7 just west of the Arden/Henderson Roads intersection has been on the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) radar for a number of years. Early last fall MTO Kingston issued a design/build contract to Looby Construction (LC) for this project. On 28 February 2018 an open house was held at the Kennebec Community Centre; this provided an opportunity for the public to learn more about the progress and staging of the project. Because of the time of year, attendance was light with 14 people signing in and five submitting comment sheets. As a follow up to the open house, a Design & Construction Report (DCR) is to be compiled by LC and made available for a 30-day public review. The DCR is expected to be released in the May/June timeframe. In the meantime, following are details that have been provided by MTO Kingston as of 05 May. a.the new bridge will be shifted about one traffic lane north and will be elevated one metre higher than the current bridge; b. the project will include improvements to the Arden/Henderson Roads intersection; c. in-water work is prohibited until 01 July; d. construction in 2018 will be limited to culvert replacements and preparation of the new bridge approaches; temporary daily Hwy #7 lane closures will be controlled by flagging operations; both lanes of Hwy #7 will remain open in the evenings, on weekends and throughout the winter months of 2018/2019; e. construction in 2019 will involve demolition of the westbound lane of the existing bridge and construction of the new bridge; this will necessitate reducing Hwy #7 to a single lane of traffic and the installation of synchronized traffic lights at the Arden/Henderson Roads intersection and on Hwy #7 west of the bridge site; f. two lanes of traffic on Hwy #7 will be restored in time for the winter 2019/2020 g. construction in the summer 2020 will include the demolition of the east bound lane of the old bridge and final site.
